"Two Little Houses"

I've apparenty committed myself to the "Fun House". Love making houses. They even look like houses - Surprise! Side by side. Why, this is a neighborhood on a bead. Enjoy.

Blue House

Beginning to work with shards and liking the effects. Gives kind of a dreamy effect to the bead and looks very difficult to achieve. This was the FUN bead for me from last evening. I think I like it better than the bird bead...What do you think?

Kiln Running Smoothly!

I know - Finally, I fired up the kiln for the first time yesterday. It was quite an experience for me. I've never used a kiln before and it was probably a bit like the first time Thomas Edison lit the first light bulb. I wasn't sure what was going to happen ;-) many hahas.

The great things about this is - now I can actually sell my beads and my followers can be assured they are purchasing kiln annealed glass beads that are durable and will last for centuries if handled, of course, with care. They ARE glass afterall - right?

The thing I love about glass making is the love that goes in to each bead. Each bead is a treasure to me - a lesser child, if you will.

One thing I know for sure - you follow the Masters until you emerge from the endless copying. I'm sorry for copying but, how can I learn lest I learn from the best?

My journey continues. hugs

Later then, til the morrow

Trip Nearing the End

Well - I've been in Southern California for nearly two weeks. The rest has been incredible. Finally - sunny weather. The rest of my stay will be in 70-75 degree weather.

I've researched and re-researched my favorite bead artists methods and come up with some amazing discoveries. I can hardly wait to return home and sit before my torch once again.

I'll be working at Pratt for the next few months on the next auction catalogue, but only part time.

I'm trying to decide what class I should be signing up for in March. Leaning toward the flameworking class to learn more about glass itself than making beads. We'll see.

This weekend it's off to Costa Mesa (the beach) and then on the my youngest son Gabe's (the stunt/actor) to stay until Wednesday in Venice Beach. Looking foward to spending time with him. He is a darling.

Home on Wednesday when my oldest son (another sweetheart) Adam will pick me up from the airport and cart me back home.

Later then, from sunny California! xoxo

Raining in Sunny California

Even the raining weather in California is brighter than the rainy weather in Seattle. Don't get me wrong - I love Seattle, but, once in a while - you just need a little sunshine during those dreary winter months.

My sis-in-law Jeanette and I laugh - it seems like - continuously. She is such a joy to be with. We'll be in Palm Springs for the Super Bowl!!! At least 70 degree weather there. S U M M E R to me!

Even being away from the glass on a mini vacation leaves me thinking about it from moment to moment. Placed a big order for CIM (Creation is Messy) glass for when I get home and a kiln mandrel holder so I'll be ready upon arrival to create some beads!

Later then...xoxo

Experimentation

Today - got the kiln programmed...stepped right through my fear!!! Now - the next step is putting those beads inside it and pushing the GO! button. Hopefully, they won't end up in a puddle of glass on the bottom of the kiln. Many firsts for me. I can do this!!

New bead for the day. Enjoy - pics are of each side of the same bead. Experimenting with photography as well and adding text to the pics as well. Coming right along - I'm so proud of myself.
